A new crowd of home-grown fascists have joined the Secret Service and locals nuts running over crosses at Camp Casey near Bush's (always very long) vacation cottage in Crawford, Texas. They've set up what is known among idiots as a "patriotic" camp to counter the Cindy Sheehan-led protests. It is known as "Fort Qualls", the brainchild (such as it is) of Gary Qualls.
Qualls, father of 20 year old Wayne Qualls who was killed in Iraq last year, said "If I have to sacrifice my whole family for the sake of our country and world, other countries that want freedom, I'll do that." Quite a father. Selflessly willing to sacrifice his entire family for Bush's fraudulent wars. Of course, he's not planning on going to Iraq himself, though he supports the enlistement of his 16 year old son.
Qualls even went so far as to rip a cross out of the ground at Camp Casey with his dead son's name on it, twice, truly the brave actions of a profoundly patriotic man.
It doesn't seem to matter, or even occur, to Qualls or his son that the entire premise of the war in Iraq was a load of bullshit - something you think they would recognize in Texas - that is, it was not done for the "sake of our country and world", as Qualls, a likely faithful viewer or Fox News, prefers to believe.
It is this kind of slavish stupidity and fatalism that makes tyranny possible, not preventable. He is the sort of man, along with his sons (who presumably are as weak-minded and ignorant as he) that were the sort of men that comprised the SS. Just ordinary people with an extraordinary level of inattention to facts and blind patriotism. The sort likely to carry out more Abu Ghraibs among other crimes.
